Tired of exploring inner wounds or generational trauma? Has the heaviness distanced you from the joy of creation? Do you find yourself pigeon-holed in saleable art, but want to go deeper? Have you developed a career out of a visual style and been unable to experiment or play? This JBG summer curatorial series invites emerging interdisciplinary artists to explore based on their own creative desires not what is deemed consumable by gallery gaze.
Priority goes to queer and trans Black, Indigenous, people of colour. Artists are required to be emerging artists who have never been paid CARFAC rates. Chosen artists will receive CARFAC fees if selected.

QUEER ARTS FESTIVAL 2022: HAUNTINGS

What haunts you? Fear? Insecurity? Longing? Depending on your perspective, culture and identity, the gothic can encapsulate myriad experiences. In a queer context, our very existence is haunting ― a reminder of what colonial culture attempted to erase; a ghostly representation of our kin taken from us because of their queerness; an ephemeral suggestion of what future lays in wait across generations.

When: June 20 – July 8 2022
SOUND_THERAPY FESTIVAL 2022: TBA

Sound_Therapy is 2 weeks of live music and community healing, involving musicians and DJs from Metro Vancouver, to showcase live music performed by at least 85% Black, Indigenous, and/or racialized artists. Sound_Therapy provides a safe space for marginalized artists to receive community support and form lasting friendships
with likeminded people. We will link each emerging artist to a more established artist within the festival for one prepaid mentorship session, based on areas of expertise, skillsets, and intersections. We will be doing a call for submissions for musicians.
